Geometric Minimalism
Minimalism as a philosophy cuts through the noise of excess, clearing space for what truly matters; it involves removing the unnecessary surplus that floods our lives with distraction and discontent. It is a reaction against consumerism; opposing abundance and materialism by promoting simplicity and functionality. Therefore, minimalism can be understood as a critique of capitalism.
Geometric minimalism expresses a minimalist ethic through clean, geometric forms aimed at creating tranquility and space for reflection, in contrast to the visual chaos and overconsumption often associated with modern consumer culture. It represents a return to the essential, where less is more. By breaking down complex impressions to their essential elements, this approach adopts a structuralist perspective.
With the northern Norwegian natural landscape in focus, this series of images explores the essential elements of the landscape in the picture plane.
In this work, I draw inspiration from a lifelong and close relationship with the northern Norwegian nature of Nordland, Troms, and Finnmark, particularly the Narvik mountains and the nature surrounding Alta.
